 5pm-7pm at the club slip – 6 Sessions for £80

Courses are run from the club during the second half of the summer term on weekday evenings (5pm-7pm Monday to Thursday).  4 day week long courses are run in the summer holidays (9am to 3pm).  Our more experienced sailors are encouraged to take part in racing. 

The courses will be run by RYA qualified instructors in accordance with RYA stages 1-4 and those stages are summarised below.

  • Stage 1 –  Can sail on a reach and understand the basic principles for controlling speed.
  • Stage 2  – Can go about reach to reach and sail a shallow triangle.
  • Stage 3  – Can tack, gybe, sail on all points of sailing and right a small capsized dingy.
  • Stage 4 – Can carry out stage 3 sailing techniques in a crewed boat.  Can launch and recover safely and recover a man overboard.

The cost of the 6 evening session course will be £80 per child paid in advance.  Children will be expected to attend all 6 sessions.  The 5 day summer courses cost £140.  The RCIYC regret that there will be no refund for non attendance unless a paying replacement can be found. If sailing is cancelled due to bad weather, a shorter theory session will be run in the club training room to include naming parts of a boat, points of sail, rules of the road, knots etc.

Our Terms and Conditions
  •  Children will be expected to attend all sessions within their course.  The RCIYC regret that there will be no refund for non-attendance unless a paying replacement can be found in time.
  •  The Club reserves the right to withdraw any child who is not considered capable of completing the course safely.  In this instance a pro rata refund will be offered.
  •  At least one parent or guardian per child should be available to assist for two or more sessions if required.  The aim of the course is to make the children’s first impressions of dingy sailing fun and therefore help will be needed in keeping them warm, occupied and interested.
  •  Parents are asked to drop their children at the RCIYC at least 15 minutes before the course starts.   Children should have eaten or should come with a snack and a drink to keep them going for the evening courses.  For the day courses children must come with a packed lunch in plastic bags (no containers) and a snack.

By enrolling your child on the course you accept that they will be taking part in a water sport with all of the associated risks both on the water and land.  They will be taught by a qualified instructor who is also first aid qualified.  If you are not happy with these risks then please do not enrol your child on the course.
